About Us

A friend who owned a retail business in Stamford, Connecticut was told by his HVAC service provider that two of his four rooftop units needed extensive repair work which was clearly attributable to dirty condenser coils. His service company had recommended cleaning the condenser coils the previous year but the cost was so high and his margins so thin, he put it off.

After the repairs were done our friend asked if there was some way to filter the condensers and avoid the costs of cleaning and repair. Being an air filter distributer, we agreed, thinking; this should be an easy fix. But every HVAC technician, engineer and equipment manufacturer said it was impossible. The reason given was always the same. Any filter would starve the system for air.

They were right. Every filter product; every filter media we tried, failed.

Most of the media we tried did, in fact, starve the system for air and caused the energy to climb even higher than the contamination it was supposed to capture. The situation only got worse with every bit of contamination it captured. Other media tried was either ineffectual and/or too weak to withstand the elements for any length of time in service.

To make this work, we needed to make our own.

We began testing the first generation of the Coil Curtain in April of 2005 with Walgreen’s stores in downtown Chicago. Against the backdrop of the beautiful Chicago skyline as well as in the midst of farmlands, the Coil Curtain demonstrated its ability to keep their condensers clean. Stores that had long suffered from big repair and replacement costs to their in-store refrigeration systems reported “zero” repairs and “zero” replacements because of the Coil Curtain. Metered units demonstrated “zero” increase in energy use. Zero. Not only did the coils stay clean, Walgreen’s HVAC staff reported “no increase in static pressure” across any coils fitted with the Coil Curtain.

Later tests with Sears Holding reported the same results while also mentioning a significant reduction in time and materials related to repair of their rooftop units when compared to other stores in the region not fitted with the Coil Curtain.

The most notable success has been with The Home Depot chain.

Before implementing a field test, Home Depot conducted extensive lab testing; challenging our claims in static pressure, airflow, energy reduction, exposure to extreme weather conditions and more. Having determined the validity of all our claims, Home Depot moved to a sixty-store field test. The success of that test led to modifications that enabled us to extend the service life of The Coil Curtain to a full four years of maintenance free service. Additionally, since it’s full-chain rollout, the Coil Curtain has delivered over $160,000,000 in energy dollars, has helped reduced their biannual HVAC maintenance by 50% and has been instrumental in reducing time and material repair costs by 10% or more annually.

All this has resulted a Cash Flow improvement estimated in excess of $144,000,000 with a Net Present Value of over $120,000,000

- and growing every year.
